Individualism and Political Personalism: A Nuanced Approach
Individualization and political personalization reflect shifts in contemporary societies toward a
greater emphasis on individual actors and their roles and a lesser one on collectives and groupings.
Yet, the relationship between these two central social and political phenomena poses a conundrum:
Does individualization breed personalization? Or, more specifically, what type of individualization breeds what type of personalization?
And is there a particular type of individualization that can produce collegialism?
